Not every day of a trip is a landmark. Some days it’s the food shop, and in Korea the food shop is worth filming.
Emart is a huge multi-level store with the supermarket on the ground floor and clothes, toiletries and electronics stacked above it. We went in for fruit and vegetables and got sidetracked by kumquats, seasonal strawberries and blueberries, sprouted salads and warm tofu. There’s the fried food counter, the in-store bakery doing Western-style treats, free ramen samples, and the Korean hot food stalls outside where we finished on a very sweet hotteok.
If you want to understand how people actually eat somewhere, skip the restaurant lists and walk a supermarket. This one pays that back better than most.
