Stonehenge is one of those places you've seen a thousand times before you ever stand in front of it, and it still stops you. The stones sit right out on Salisbury Plain with nothing around them, so the first proper look comes as you walk up the path and the circle just appears against the sky.
This is one of the oldest photos on the whole site, taken years before any of the long trips began. You keep to the roped path these days, which sounds restrictive until you realise it's what's kept the circle standing while millions of us come to look at it.
