Guam

A weekend in Tumon Bay, Guam: the Dusit Thani resort, a boat trip with tawny nurse sharks, Chamorro Village night market and a late-night Kmart run.

Guam surprised us. We came for a beach weekend in Tumon Bay and left with a camera roll full of sharks, Spanish forts and night-market food.

Guam's best resorts, activities and food. Watch on YouTube

Base camp was the Dusit Thani Guam Resort, the video has the full hotel tour, from the ocean-view room and lobby vibes to the breakfast buffet. Early mornings were for the beach and pool before the day trips began.

The best moment of the whole weekend came on a boat trip: tawny nurse sharks, right there in the clear water. Back on land we took in the view from Fort Santa Agueda, visited the Dulce Nombre de María Cathedral Basilica, and did the full Tumon shopping circuit, ABC Stores, Macy’s, Cinnabon, a coffee stop, and an obligatory late-night Kmart run, which is somehow a genuine Guam tradition.

We finished at Chamorro Village night market for street food and local entertainment, the best single stop on the island for feeling what Guam is actually like. If you get the chance to visit this little piece of island America in the Pacific, take it.
