The Geysir geothermal area on the Golden Circle is where the word geyser comes from, and its star performer Strokkur goes off every few minutes with impressively little warning. We timed our photo well. Mostly.
It sits an easy drive from Reykjavik, on the same loop as Silfra and the waterfalls, and it smells exactly as volcanic as you hope.
